Abstract
418,866. Electric hot-plates. DEHN, F. B., 103, Kingsway, London.-(Doherty Research Co.; 60, Wall Street, New York, U.S.A.) Oct. 26, 1933, No. 29726. [Class 39 (iii).] A hot-plate consists of a resistance element 14 housed in a plate 10 composed of refractory material, principally silicon with either zircon compounds or silicon carbide, bonded by a phosphate reaction product formed by heat. The bottom plate 20 of the hot plate is formed by firing a mixture of zircon sand with aluminium or zinc powder, sulphur or resin and phosphorus pentoxide. A plate 10 with a resistance element may be provided on each side of plate 20. The resistance element may be embedded in plate 10 in which case it is coated with a glass or artificial resin. The resistance element may also be housed in grooves in the bottom plate 20. The hot plate may be glazed with a mixture of potash, lime, alumina, iron oxide, silica, and boric oxide.
