[Class 126.] The back and sides of an open fireplace are wholly or partly covered on their rear surfaces with supplementary slabs 2, 3, 4 of non-heat-conducting material, such as diatomite or kieselguhr. Where a firebrick bottom is employed, a similar slab of material may be arranged underneath it. The slabs are cemented to the firebrick, or may be secured by studs or other means.
