Abstract
418,066. Aircraft wing structures. VICKERS (AVIATION), Ltd., and WALLIS, B. N., Byfleet Road, Weybridge, Surrey. April 18, 1933, No. 11308. [Class 4.1 A biplane wing structure comprises wings constructed to be self-resisting to torsion and drag and interconnected by a single system of interplane bracing between the spars on the wings and the fuselage to relieve the spars of bending stresses due to lift forces. As shown, each wing is built up of sections A, B, C, D, E, F each comprising two tubular looms a, a<1> connected by bracing members a<2> the sections being secured together by flanges b<1> in the manner described in Specification 376,364. The wings are built up of opposed geodesics in the manner described in Specification 412,232. The bracing comprises interplane struts c, c<1>, c<2>, c<3> built up of two inwardly-facing channel-sections interconnected by lattice members and surrounded by a stream-line fairing. The bracing system may comprise single vertical struts and cross bracing tension members located between the struts, between the struts and fuselage, or between both the struts and the fuselage.
