Abstract
410,405. Aircraft planes. MARTIN, J., Martin's Aircraft Works, Higher Denham, Buckinghamshire. Oct. 20, 1933, No. 29090. [Class 4.] An aircraft wing, tail plane or control plane is constructed with two spars connected together by stiff X-shaped bracing extending the full depth of the spar and rigidly secured together at their intersections. The upper and lower edges of the bracing may be curved to the contour of the plane or separate profiling members may be secured thereto. A metal wing structure is shown having two spars composed of tubular booms 3 secured to webs 1, the two spars being interconnected by channel section bracing members 11 with abutting members 12, 13. These members, together with struts 20 when used, are secured to flattened portions 6 on the spars by plates 7 and to the webs 1 by L-brackets 16. The members 11, 12, 13 are secured together at their intersection by L-brackets 14 and at their upper and lower edges by plates 15. In a biplane structure, any interplane struts have flared ends secured to the.struts 20. A wooden framework is described comprising flat boards secured at their junctions by angular blocks.
