Abstract
<PICT:0417449/III/1> The grain size of pulverulent or granular materials e.g. soap powders obtained by pulverisation of molten substances or mixtures of substances, which are solid at room temperatures, is reduced by spraying the molten material to produce a subdivided form and further subdividing the products obtained by conveying them pneumatically through a tubular conduit so that they are subjected to frictional action against the walls of the conduit. Molten soap sprayed through a jet B into a chamber C is coagulated by air sucked in by an exhauster A. The air and entrained particles pass through a tube system D in which the particles are reduced by friction to the required size. The particles are separated from the air in a cyclone E and collected in a vessel H. In a modification the material is sprayed upwardly and the particles entrained in a downward current of air which may be cooled by extra air drawn in through vents, the air and particles being finally drawn through a tube system by the exhauster producing the air current.
