Abstract

651,459. Gas filters. LINDEROTH, E. T. Feb. 19, 1947, No. 4889. Convention date. Feb. 22, 1946. [Class 8(ii)] [Also in Group II] Solid Particles are separated from a current of gas by directing it along a duct 5 of diminishing cross-section and containing filter means comprising spaced slots through which substantially dust-free gas escapes into a duct 3 leaving a concentration of gas-borne particles in the duct 5 leading to a discharge duct 8, oscillations within a frequency range of 1,000 to 15,000 per second being imparted to the gas current whilst travelling along the filter surface. The duct 3 is frustro-conical having an angle between 3 and 15 degrees and the slots are formed by tongues 2 bent at an angle between 30 and 90 degrees and spaced between 2 and 16 millimetres apart. The slots impart the oscillations on drawing the gas through the duct 5 at a linear velocity of between 16 and 30 metres per second by a suction pump 7. Final separation is effected by a cyclone 9 having a particle receptacle 19 and a duct 21 by which clear gas is recirculated by a fan 10. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Act comprises also a mathematical analysis of the forces acting on the particles. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
