Abstract
624,103. Magnetic separators. COMPAGNIE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ELECTROMETALLURGIQUES ALAIS, FROGES, & CAMARGUE. Oct. 7, 1946, No. 29867. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1945. [Class 72] A method and apparatus for the magnetic separation of fine pulverulent products in the dry state in which the products fall freely as a thin vertical sheet past a plurality of superposed zones of magnetic attraction arranged close to said sheet, is characterized by dispersing the pulverulent product to obtain a volumetric concentration of less than about 1/100 before it reaches the magnetic zones. In the apparatus shown the pulverulent material falls from a hopper 1 via a vibrating sieve 2 whose mesh is chosen to give the necessary volumpetric dispersion, as an annular sheet into the flue formed by the non-magnetic fixed outer wall 3 and inner rotary drum 6. Inside the drum 6 is a fixed vertical electro - magnet having several superposed polepieces 4 and windings 5, the polepieces being interrupted over one sector for the whole height of the apparatus, at which interruption they are replaced by a magnetic screen 11. Here, too, the wall 3 is extended into a hood 9 enclosing a rotary brush 8 rubbing against the drum 6. Magnetic material is attracted during its free fall to the drum 6 and removed therefrom by the brush 8 and into a hopper 12, whilst the non-magnetic particles fall into the hopper 7.
