Abstract

417,311. Electromagnets. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. April 11, 1934, No. 10930. Convention date, April 11, 1933. [Class 35.] A polarized relay having a magnetic circuit for a variable or working flux and two parallel magnetic circuits for a polarizing flux, the two parallel magnetic circuits being arranged so that their like poles of one polarity are located opposite one another at the working air gap in which an armature is arranged to oscillate whilst the poles of the other polarity are combined in the said armature, is characterized by the polarizing flux in the two parallel magnetic circuits being produced by a magnet common to both the said circuits and extending substantially independently of the magnetic circuit for the variable or working flux. As shown the permanent polarizing magnet 3 has two lower polar projections 6 arranged adjacent the lower end of the pivoted armature 5 and two upper polar extensions extending downwardly to terminate at opposite sides of the upper end of the armature. Fixed magnetic extension pieces 10 are secured to the fixed contact members 8 to complete the two parallel flux paths which are indicated by the dotted lines. The operating flux is produced by a varying current in an electromagnet 1 on a core 2 this magnetic circuit being thus substantially independent of the two magnetic circuits for the polarizing flux. The contact structure is surrounded by an exhausted container 9. In a modification (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) the upper pole pieces are arranged to be adjustable.
