Abstract

417,091. Window sashes balanced by springs. ALGRAIN, P., 120, Rue Parmentier, La Croyere, Belgium. Jan. 1, 1934, No. 31. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1933. [Class 20 (iii).] A sliding window for vehicles is balanced by mechanism comprising one or more elements movable bodily relatively to the sash and pressed by springs against a parabolic guide attached to the sash frame or to the window frame, in such manner that the resultant pressure applied to the sash has a constant value equal to the weight of the sash and a direction parallel to the direction of movement of the window. In one construction, the balancing springs 7, Figs. 3 and 4, are adjustably connected to two carriages 5 which move over the branches 9, 9 of a fixed parabolic guide and which slidably engage with horizontal bars 13 spaced from and attached to the bottom rail of the sash 3. Each carriage is connected to the springs by two arms 5b arranged one on either side of the guide. Rollers 8 of the carriages engage with the guide and the spindle 8 of each roller is adjustably mounted in a horizontal slot 5 of the carriage, the adjustment being effected by a screw 12 which passes through a fork 12 attached to the spindle. By this means, the tension of the springs 7 can be varied. When the sash is lowered, the branches 9, 9 of the guide pass between the bars 13. In a modification, the carriages directly engage with the bottom rail of the sash and the latter, when lowered, passes centrally between the guide, each branch of which is constituted by two spaced parallel bars. In another construction, the guide has one limb only and the carriage is connected by a spring 7, Fig. 8, to a projection 17 of the sash. In another arrangement, the branches 9, 9, Fig. 7, of the guide are formed integral with the sash and the carriages 5 run on fixed horizontal tracks 18. Other modifications are also described.
