Abstract

341,474. Window sashes balanced by springs. METROPOLITAN - CAMMELL CARRIAGE, WAGON, & FINANCE CO., Ltd., and RAYER, F. H., Metropolitan Road, Saltley, Birmingham. Oct. 14, 1929, No. 31096. [Class 20 (iii).] A vehicle-window balancing or controlling mechanism comprises a bell-crank lever pivoted on the vehicle body or window surround at a point adjacent the lower edge of the window when the latter is raised, and a link which is pivotally or slidably connected at one end to the lower edge of the window and at the other end is pivotally connected to the inwardly and downwardly extending long arm of the lever, the long and short arms of said lever being connected respectively, by springs, to the link and to the window surround or vehicle body. As shown, a window c, working in guides b, is supported by two links h, each pivotally connected at one end to a plate k on the window and at the other end to an arm e of a bell crank. Each bell crank is pivoted to a bracket a on the respective guide b and the short arm d thereof is connected by a tension spring f to a lug g also secured to the guide. A second tension spring l connects the arm e and the link h. The tension of the springs may be adjusted by nuts p. In a modification, the inner end of the link h has a roller which travels in a guide in the lower edge of the window when the latter is raised or lowered. In a further modification, compression springs are employed, such springs being arranged between washers or stops at the free ends of rods pivoted to the bell crank and link, and lugs or brackets through which the rods work. A single link and lever arrangement may be employed instead of the duplicated arrangement shown.
