Abstract

415,922. Variable - speed gearing. HAYES, F. A., Middletown, New Jersey, U.S.A. Dec. 1, 1933, No. 33846. [Class 80 (ii).] In a variable-speed friction gear comprising rollers running in torus tracks on co-axial discs, a fork or guide 13 is provided and mounted upon the roller carrier 10 so that a swivelling movement of the fork tilts the roller about its axis of contact b-b and so initiates precession. The rollers 4 are mounted to allow of this tilting on a hinge 8 ; alternatively the hub may be slotted so that the roller can rock on its shaft or the roller may be mounted upon. a spherical ball race.
