Abstract
258,624. Erban, R. Sept. 21, 1925, [Convention date]. Variable-speed friction gearing comprising race rings 1, 2, Fig. 1, and friction rollers 3 journaled so as to have rotary freedom about three axes at right-angles, has guiding means for each roller 3 capable of engaging that part of a roller such as a, c approaching one of the race rings to move the rollers into a new running path to vary the speed ratio. For gearing adapted for one direction of rotation only the guiding means may be segments 6, Fig. 4, carrying a spindle 5 for a spherical ball bearing 14 on which the roller 3 is mounted, edges a<17>, a<18> on the segments engaging an approaching part of the roller when the lever 10 is operated. In a modification for both directions of rotation, the segments 6, Figs. 5 and 6, carry guiding members 11 turnable on a pin 12. Each member 11 has edges c<28>, d<28>, one edge contacting with a receding part of a roller and the other an approaching part according to the direction of rotation. Specifications 235,605 is referred to.
