[Class 40 (v).] A photo-electric cell 1, sub. jected to varying illumination, is connected in series with a source of potential 3 of such value, and a diode 2 so activated, that the diode presents a relatively small resistance to the steady component of the photo-electric current and a large resistance to the fluctuating component. The output is taken across the terminals of the diode.
