Abstract

422,906. Television. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Blyth Road, Hayes, Middlesex, and WILLANS, P. W., 18, Park Hill Road, Hampstead, London. April 13, 1933, No. 11204. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] The direct - current components of a television signal which are lost in an amplifier, are re-inserted by the operation of recurrent maximum or minimum signals, for example, synchronizing signals. The positive synchronizing signals on the grid of a valve 6 cause grid current to flow to give a charge to a condenser 7 which leaks away through a resistance 8. The grid potential thus becomes such that grid current just flows in response to the synchronizing signals. The picture signals are more negative and do not affect the average charge on the condenser. The time constant of the condenser and resistance is short compared with that of the circuits of the preceding amplifier. Since some loss of the direct-current components is inevitable, the anode resistance 9 is shunted by a circuit 34, 35 to attenuate the upper frequencies. According to modifications : the synchronizing signals are negative and a diode rectifying valve is used, Figs. 10 and 12 (not shown) ; the output of a high-impedance amplifier works into a shunt inductance across which are connected a rectifier and a low resistance in series, Fig. 11 (not shown).
