Abstract

530,426. Automatic gain control. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. June 23, 1939, No. 18349. Convention date, July 27, 1938. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] The vision signal is detected by diode 24, and the lower envelope thereof is developed across the resistance 27. This envelope, together with pulses which are received from a valve 42 and which block out the synchronizing pulses in the signal, is applied to the triode section of valve 23. The output therefrom is developed across a resistance 30 and is applied to the reproducer 17, through an amplifier 31 and through circuit 16 which stabilizes the signal at its blanking level. The output from valve 23 is also applied in part to a diode 50 which develops across resistance 52 a potential dependent on the peak value which, as the lower envelope is being used, is the black level. This potential is used for gain control and is applied to the carrier frequency stages. The valve 42 is fed from diode 38 and produces pulses at the moments of the synchronizing signals, and applies these to the valve 23, to the separator 20 and thence to the line and frame generators 21, 22, and also to the reproducer 17 so as to prevent reproduction of synchronizing pulses in the vision signal from amplifier 31.
