Abstract

422,824. Television. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Blyth Road, Hayes, Middlesex, WILLANS, P. W., 18, Park Hill Road, Hampstead, London, PERCIVAL, W. S., 6, York Mansions, York Avenue, Hanwell, WHITE, E. L. C., 18, The Drive, Hillingdon, both in Middlesex, and OSBORNE, H. E. F., (Representative of OSBORNE, C. P.), 56, Alcester Street, Devonport. April 13, 1933, Nos. 10522 /34 (divided out of 422,906), and 3945/34. [Class 40 (iii)] The circuits of a television system are such that the amplitude of the separated synchronizing signals is unaffected by changes in the average intensity of the picture signals. At the transmitter a direct-current amplifier is used, or, if an ordinary amplifier is used, the lost direct-current component is re-inserted by a circuit described in Specification 422,906 and based on the fact that the synchronizing signals, which exceed the signals corresponding to black in the picture, are of constant amplitude, Figs. 1-7 (not shown). At the receiver the anode of a detecting pentode 48 is connected directly to the grid of a valve 59. The potentials supplied to the valves from potentiometers 49, 53, are such that the valve 59 passes current only in response to the synchronizing signals. The line-control signals are separated from the framing impulses by a filter 62 and control a saw-tooth oscillator 67. According to a modification, separate detectors are used for the picture and synchronizing signals, each designed to operate on the appropriate amplitudes, Fig. 9 (not shown). The saw-tooth oscillations are generated by gas-discharge tubes as described in Specification 400,976. Specification 413,561 also is referred to.
