Abstract
High molecular sulphones which are prepared by reacting esters derived from aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydroxy compounds and oxygen containing mineral acids with sulphinic-acids or their salts, at least one of the components containing an aliphatic residue having at least eight carbon atoms, are stated to have emulsifying properties. In examples: (1) p-toluene sulphinic acid or dodecane sulphinic acid is treated with dodecylsulphuric ester in the presence of caustic soda: (2) a -naphthalene-sulphinic acid, after the addition of caustic soda is treated with the sodium salts of the sulphuric esters of a mixture of higher alcohols: (3) the disodium salt of dodecylphosphoric acid ester is treated with the sodium salt of p-toluenesulphinic acid. The following components are also mentioned: the sulphuric, phosphoric and p-toluenesulphonic acid esters of amyl, octyl, myristic, resin and naphthene alcohols and iso-amyl, benzene and chlormethane sulphinic acids.ALSO:High molecular sulphones are prepared by reacting esters derived from aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydroxy compounds and oxygen containing mineral acids with sulphinic acids or their salts, at least one of the components containing an aliphatic residue having at least eight carbon atoms. The sulphones have emulsifying properties and may be used as assistants in the cosmetic and rubber industries and as softening agents in the textile industry. In examples: (1) p-toluene sulphinic acid or dodecane sulphinic acid is treated with dodecylsulphuric ester in the presence of caustic soda; (2) a -naphthalenesulphinic acid, after the addition of caustic soda is treated with the sodium salts of the sulphuric esters of a mixture of higher alcohols; (3) the disodium salt of dodecylphosphoric acid ester is treated with the sodium salt of p-toluenesulphinic acid. The following components are also mentioned: the sulphuric, phosphoric and p-toluenesulphonic acid esters of amyl, octyl, myristic, resin and naphthene alcohols and iso-amyl, benzene and chlormethane sulphinic acids. Chlormethane and dodecane sulphinic acids may be prepared by reducing the corresponding sulphochlorides with zinc dust or sodium amalgam.
