[Class 38 (ii).] A transformer provided with disc-like windings has the inner and/or outer conductors of the separate disc windings provided with a U-shaped insulating covering so that the intermediate conductors are not enclosed by this covering and are thus enabled to be subjected to oil circulation for cooling purposes. As shown in Fig. 1 the winding c consists of a series of disc like windings c<1>, c<2> and the outer conductors of these windings which are nearest the high-tension winding d are provided with U-shaped insulating coverings f surrounding the outer corners. The windings are held in position by U-shaped insulating supports g, Figs. 2 and 3, which are held by dovetail projections i spaced around the insulating cylinder k. If desired further U-shaped insulating coverings may be provided to embrace the inner turns of the windings c<1>, c<2> all the other conductors of these windings being subjected to the cooling action of the insulating oil which can circulate between the disc windings. The insulators f may be fixed by bindings during the winding process or may alternatively be secured by adhesives. Additional insulating members h of approximately the same width as the supports g may be provided within these members.
