Abstract
413,820. Transformers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 28, Kingsway, London, AYRES, W. E. M., Siemens Works, and CALVERLEY, J. E., 58, Crescent Road, Rowley Park, both in Stafford. March 27, 1933, No. 9136. [Class 38 (ii).] A transformer for producing impulses of peaked wave form suitable for energizing the grids of vapourelectric rectifiers or for feeding lamps for stroboscopic purposes comprises secondary windings 5 traversed by a flux wave set up by polyphase primary windings A, B, C, the secondary windings being arranged on a core part 3 of high permeability, but which saturates at a point below the crest value of the flux wave, the core comprising also a part 4 of lower permeability, but having a saturation point above the crest value of the flux wave, the latter part affording a shunt path for the flux so that the secondary windings are linked by a flat-topped flux wave. The core parts 3, 4 are secured together and mounted on a shaft 7 so that the secondary windings may be angularly displaced with respect to the primary windings which are located in slots on a stator core. Thus phase adjustment of the secondary voltage impulses may be obtained.
