Abstract

415,034. Piston packing. SHANKS, R., 25, Hertford Avenue, Kelvinside, Glasgow. Feb. 14, 1933, No. 4480. [Class 122 (i).] Packing for pistons or piston valves comprises an axially adjustable tapered ring 3 engaging the conical bore of a split ring 6 encircled by split packing rings 7. The ring 3 is threaded on the piston and may be locked in position by a key and engaging a recess 1<a> in the piston and any one of a number of similar recesses 3<c> in the ring. The packing rings may have annular projections 7<a> engaging recesses in adjacent rings. Holes are provided in the top of the ring 3 to accommodate projections in a tool for rotating the ring.
