[Class 106 (i).] In apparatus for measuring the residual air space above liquids in containers by determining the movement of a part G when allowed to fall under gravity so as to reduce the volume of a cavity Q communicating by a pipe D with the space to be measured, the sliding part G has a ring F which closely fits the stationary cylinder B and dips into an oil cup at its lowest position, so as to take oil for lubrication of the sliding surface. A cover J on a cylinder C prevents escape of lubricating oil. A cylindrical housing E is fitted with a number of slots and scales for various measuring units co-operating with a mark on a coloured cylinder L secured to the stem K of the sliding part G. The part G may slide within the cylinder B. The cylinder B may be solid and bored with a duct D.
