Abstract
Fireboxes and firebox staybolts are made from copper alloys containing up to 2 per cent of nickel or copper or both and an amount of silicon which is sufficient to ensure the retention of the hardness produced by cold working but is insufficient to cause any substantial precipitation hardening in the soft annealed condition. The alloys preferably contain at least 96 per cent of copper, less than 1 per cent of nickel, and less than 0,5 per cent of silicon, and may contain limited amounts of manganese, chromium, iron, tin, zinc, aluminium, titanium, and vanadium. After cold working the firebox or staybolt, or part thereof, it may be annealed at up to 400 DEG C., or may be put into service without any intermediate heat treatment. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the alloys may consist of copper with one or more of the elements silicon, aluminium, beryllium, and phosphorus, and one or more of the metals nickel, chromium, iron, cobalt, and manganese, with or without tin, zinc, and titanium. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
