Abstract
414,433. Feeding sheets. BACKHOUSE, H. T., 29, Norfolk Road, St. John's Wood, London. Feb. 13, 1933, No. 4294. [Class 100 (i).] In connection with a sheet-feeding apparatus of the kind in which tapes 2 conveys a stream of overlapping sheets 3 to a printing or other machine, accurate registration of the foremost sheet is assisted by reducing the friction between this sheet and the one beneath it during the registration of the sheet by introducing a layer of air between the two sheets. An air pipe 6 with nozzles 7 is carried adjustably on a rod 9 and directs blasts of air in a direction substantially at right angles to the stream. The pipe 6 can be adjusted so as to direct the stream just behind the foremost sheet and to produce components as indicated by the arrows. A considerable part of the air passes under the foremost sheet which can thus move without friction over the next sheet during registration. A pair of rollers 12 is carried by the carriage 11, which supports the pipe 6, and serves to maintain the edges of the sheets in contact with the tapes 2.
