787,465. Feeding sheets. BACKHOUSE, H. T. Nov. 18, 1955 [Aug. 25, 1954], No. 24786/54. Class 100(1) In apparatus for separating sheets by their rear edges one by one from the horizontal top of a pile 12 and forwarding them by means operating at the rear on to a conveyer 14 which slopes downwardly, in order to avoid an abrupt change of angle of the sheets there is provided a feed roller 10 between the pile and the conveyer whereby the change of angle is effected in two stages, one stage as the sheets pass over the roller 10 and the other as they pass on to the conveyer 14, the upper end of the conveyer being at a small distance below the level of the roller 10. The apparatus shown is substantially as described in Specification 774,875, and includes a telescopic table or feed-board 22 and overlying smoother strips arranged between the conveyer and feed roller 10. The tape conveyer 14 is arranged for pivotal movement about the axis of its rear roller 15, during which the table 22 telescopes automatically, and the conveyer can also be removed bodily. The feed roller 10 is positively driven. Presser wheels 11 and 16, 17 cooperate with the roller 10 and conveyer tapes, respectively.
