Abstract
414,181. Plate heat - exchangers. SELIGMAN, R., Lincoln House, Parkside, Wimbledon Common, London. April 4, 1933, Nos. 10096 and 17877. [Class 64 (iii).] A heat-exchanger for fluids applicable for pasteurizing milk and of the kind in which the fluids flow over the opposite sides of separating plates comprises corrugated plates clamped between frames 1 having rubber sealing strips 2 to form fluid ducts having elongated chambers 15 connected by convergent-divergent passages 16. The plates are formed with ports 10-13, Fig. 3, which register with ports 3-6. Fig. 1, in the frames to connect alternate ducts in series. The ports may be inclined to the corrugations if desired, a single corrugated plate may be combined with appropriately shaped cover plates to form two fluid ducts. Fig. 8 shows a modification in which the fluids flow in a two-pass path over the plates which may have the form shown in Figs. 12 and 13. The plates may be formed by pressing or, alternatively, by casting as shown in Fig. 11. Further, the plates may be of cylindrical or conical form.
