Abstract
396,696. Plate heat - exchangers. MUNDAY, R. L., 35, Grosvenor, Bath. Jan. 30, 1932, No. 2866. [Class 64 (iii).] A heat exchanger for fluids, e.g. a milk pasteurizer, comprises a series of corrugated plate elements secured in frames adapted to be clamped between end-plates 2, 8 with the crests of adjacent plates contacting with one another to form a honeycomb structure, the fluids between which heat is to be exchanged flowing through alternate rows of cells. Hollow plates 11 .. 14 having ports for the inlet and oultet of the fluids are interposed between the preheating, heating, and cooling sections of the pasteurizer. The central corrugated parts 22, Figs. 7 and 8, of the plate elements are adapted to be inserted in the frames 17, Figs. 5 and 6, so that the flat marginal portions of the elements contact with the corresponding portions of the frames which are provided with supporting lugs 19. Grooves 18 for packing are formed in the frames, and apertures 20, 21 in the plates and frame form ducts for the fluids. Adjacent plates are oppositely arranged so that the corrugations communicate alternately with inlet and outlet apertures 20, 21. Thus, in Fig. 7, one fluid enters the left-hand port 20 and after flowing in an up-and-down path leaves at the righthand port 20. The other fluid enters at the lower left-hand port 21 of the adjacent plate and leaves at the right-hand port 21.
