Abstract

A composition comprising Portland or like cement is employed as an intermediate layer in coating surfaces by applying metal powders mixed with water or with a solution of gum, the coating being rubbed into the intermediate layer and polished with the aid of pressure, e.g. by means of a polishing-stone or polishing-steel. The metallic coating thus produced is protected by a colourless varnish coating. After setting and hardening and before coating with metal, the intermediate layer may be saturated with acetate of alumina. The cement composition may comprise a mixture of silica, pyrolusite, limestone and Portland cement ground together and added to a solution comprising casein, borax, water, and rosin ground in water; alternatively, a mixture of cement with ground minerals, glass, porcelain, slag or the like may be used.ALSO:A composition comprising Portland or like cement employed as an intermediate layer in coating surfaces with metal or with non-metals such as synthetic resin or haematite, comprises a mixture of silica, pyrolusite, limestone and Portland cement ground together and added to a solution comprising casein, borax, water, and an emulsion formed by grinding rosin in water.
