Stone, artificial.-An artificial marble consists of the following ingredients preferably in the proportions stated, viz.; 5 lb. of calcined magnesite, 1 1b. of powdered asbestos, 1 oz. of alum, 2 oz. of hydrated lime, 2 1b. of casein, 1 oz. of saltpetre, 2 oz. of glue, and sufficient sand or ground stone to form a suitable paste. Pieces of pearl or thin substances may be inserted in the moulding.
