Porous compositions.-Gas-liberating substances such as calcium carbide, calcium hydride and ferro-silicon which are employed in the production of porous compositions are treated with anhydrous glue, gelatine, fused waterglass or similar material so that the grains are covered with a skin of material which dissolves slowly and retards the action. Such compositions may be used in the manufacture of light bricks, insulating materials, and, according to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), abrasive materials.
