Abstract

[Class 38 (ii).] In an inverter comprising a pair of grid controlled valves 1, 11 associated with a transformer 7 and commutating condenser 9, the voltage at the load circuit terminals 15, 15<1> is automatically regulated by an impedance 13, 14, the value of which is determined by current and voltage conditions in the input circuit 3, 5. This is effected by opposed series and shunt coils 17, 18 on the centre leg of the core of the impedance, the former compensating for the drop in the valves with increase in load by saturating the core, and the latter compensating for variations in supply voltage by reducing saturation when the supply voltage increases. Alternatively, the impedance of the windings 13, 14 may be varied by voltage or current sensitive devices operating to control current in the windings 17, 18. A small air gap may be provided in the core of the impedance to modify the regulation characteristic.
