Abstract
Cellulose esters, dyeing; dye preparations.--Materials made of or containing acetylcellulose are dyed in an acid bath, prepared with water of any hardness, and, if desired, with addition of soaps, by water-insoluble or sparingly soluble dyestuffs dispersed with the aid of a water-soluble salt of the product of the action of a sulphonating agent on an aliphatic alcohol containing more than 8 carbon atoms. Specified products are (a) those obtained by sulphonating the alcohols obtainable by reduction of coco nut oil or palm oil, (b) the sulphonation products of British Specifications 307,709 and 308,824, [both in Class 2 (iii)], and German Specification 542,048, (c) the products obtainable by sulphonating either the mixture of fatty alcohols obtained by reducing the alkyl esters of the fatty acids contained in coco nut oil or palm oil or the first distillation fraction amounting to 50--60 per cent of such mixture. The following examples are specified: (1) acetylcellulose is dyed in a hard water bath at 80--90 DEG C. containing acetic acid and a mixture obtained by intimate grinding of Setacyl direct orange G with the sodium salt of sulphonated cetyl alcohol made as described in Specification 307,709; the dyeing is even and fast to rubbing; (2) a mixed fabric of acetylcellulose and wool is dyed in a bath at 80--90 DEG C. containing acetic acid, Glauber salt, Polar red RS and a mixture of a red monoazo dyestuff having good affinity for acetate artificial silk, such as Setacyl direct red GBN, with the sodium salt of the acid sulphuric ester of oxystearin alcohol made as described in Specification 308,824; the dyeing is even and fast to rubbing.
