Abstract

412,368. fluid meters. TONGUE, H., Chemical Research Laboratory, Teddington, Middlesex. April 8, 1933, No. 10609. [Class 54.] A piston valve 14 controlling the flow of fluid to and from a metering chamber 2 containing a displacement piston 1 is operated to reverse the direction of flow of the fluid through the pipes 9 by the piston at each end of its stroke engaging an insulated contact 4 and thereby completing the circuit to one of two solenoids 36 adapted to bring into operation servomechanism to operate the valve. The servo-mechanism may consist of a clutch element 25, which is continuously oscillated by an electric or other motor on a spindle 22 connected by a crank 21 and link 20 to the valve spindle, and clutch elements 29 which are feathered on the spindle 22 and are movable into engagement with the clutch element 25 by levers 34 connected to the cores 35 of the solenoids 36. The apparatus shown is particularly suited for metering gas at high pressure, the number of strokes made by the piston being indicated on a counter.
