[Class 100 (iv).] Margin stops.-In means for adjusting margin stops by moving the carriage, each margin stop is, on being released, automatically moved into engagement with a counter-stop, and can then be adjusted by a direct movement of the carriage. The means for moving each margin stop may consist of a spring-drum, or a spring- tensioned cord or rod, or a piston which in one direction of movement compresses air in a cylinder. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, a rear view, and Fig. 3, margin stops 2, 21 are mounted on a bar 1 which is secured to the carriage 20, 21 and is arranged behind the paper-shelf 24. The margin stop 2 is provided with a spring-drum 11 gearing with teeth 12 on the bar, a spring-urged sliding pawl 4 engaging teeth 6 on the bar, and a block 13 for engaging a counter-stop 17 on the framework. The margin stop 2<1> is provided with similar parts 11<1>, 41, and 13<1>. To permit of adjustment with respect to the carriage-scale, the blocks 13, 13<1> are slidingly mounted on the margin stops and are secured thereto by screws 16, 16<1>. The springs 25, 25<1> of the spring-drums are arranged to be wound when the margin stops are moved away from the counter-stop. Bails 18, 18<1> for engaging arms 4<a>, 4<a1> on the pawls 4, 4<1> are pivoted on the carriage and can be depressed by means of finger-pieces 19, 19<1>. To adjust either margin stop, for instance the margin stop 2, the bail 18 is depressed to release the pawl 4, and the margin stop is thereby permitted to move up to the counter-stop, and can be adjusted on the bar 1 by direct movement of the carriage in either direction. The fingerpieces 19, 19<1> may be arranged to actuate the carriage-releasing lever. Separate bars and separate counter-stops may be provided for the margin stops. The bar 2 and counter-stop 17 may be mounted on the framework and the carriage respectively.
