411,404. Valves; valve gear. MILLER, J., and REBBECK, F. E., c/o Harland & Wolff, Queen's Island, Belfast, Northern Ireland. Jan. 25, 1934, No. 2567. [Class 7 (vi).] In a two-stroke double-acting engine having piston-controlled inlet ports 4 and exhaust ports at the ends, the lower exhaust valve 11 which surrounds the piston rod is of the poppet type, its hollow stem 12 serving as a stuffing-box and sliding within a fixed sleeve 14 formed with exhaust ports 15. The valve is actuated by a rocker 18 and rod 19 from a cam shaft 9, which also actuates the upper exhaust valve 6. A spring 20 acts on the rocker 18 so as to close the valve 11.
