Abstract

Colloidal solutions containing 40 per cent or more of sulphur are obtained by mixing creamy deposits of sulphur, obtained by decomposing ammonium polysulphide in presence of a protective colloid, with a vegetable mucilage and a strongly alkaline substance. Suitable mucilages are agar-agar and carragheen, added in proportions of 0,2--5 per cent of the dry sulphur. Alkaline substances are caustic alkalies, ammonia, alkali metal carbonates, and amines. They are added in proportions of 0,1--2 per cent of the whole emulsion. Specification 177,103, [Class 1 (i)], is referred to.
