Abstract
410,138. Cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., Connaught House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Morgan, N. L. ; 107, Kindersley Road, Mount Royal, Quebec, Canada.) Nov. 11, 1932, No. 31904. Convention date, Nov. 13, 1931. [Class 36.] In forming a cable of insulated conductors of sector shape each conductor is first formed of a number of wires wound in circular layers separated by air spaces and insulated ; the conductors are laid up in this form as shown in Fig. 8, the cable drawn through a reducing die which gives it the form shown in Fig. 9. To form the conductors a central wire is passed through a series of hollow mandrills 10, 11 over which layers of wires are stranded from rolls 16, 23 carried on gears 17. Successive layers are preferably wound in opposite directions. Insulation is wound on the stranded wires from a spool 27 on a gear 28. Three or more conductors thus formed are then laid together without twisting in known manner and drawn through a reducing die or set of dies.
