408,883. Steam turbine plant. AKT.- GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. Oct. 11, 1933, No. 28110. Convention date, Feb. 13. [Class 110 (iii).] Relates to a steam plant in which the steam is used for power-production and heating purposes, and in which both the frequency of the electric network and the pressure of the heating system are kept constant. The main steam pipe d feeds a back-pressure turbine b which exhausts into the heating main e, and also a condensing turbine a driving a generator on the same electric network. The turbines are regulated so that, while the condensing turbine a is producing power, the speedregulating mechanism n of the back-pressure turbine is automatically put out of operation. Should, however, the power given off by the condensing turbine fall off by a predetermined amount, owing to an increase in the heating steam demand or a drop in the current demand so that the frequency can no longer be maintained by this machine, the speed-regulating mechanism n of the back-pressure turbine is put into operation automatically in order to maintain the frequency. In the arrangement shown the governor n is rendered operative or inoperative by a manometer o which actuates contacts p, q. The manometer is responsive to the pressure of the oil in the system which controls the admission valves l of the condensing turbine. The regulation may be effected by a power meter, or by a device responsive to the steam pressure at any point in the blading. The governor n may be adjusted by compressed air, or by hydraulic or mechanical means.
