Abstract

306,457. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. Feb. 20, 1928, [Convention date]. Regulating.-Relates to back-pressure turbines feeding non-power consumers in which the steam admission is normally controlled by a pressureregulator to keep the. back-pressure constant, and in which the speed is determined by the conditions of the electrical network into which the output of the back-pressure turbo-generator is fed. Should the speed of the main system drop below an admissible limit owing to overloading, the back-pressure regulator is cut out automatically and the control of the back-pressure turbine is taken over by a speed governor, so that it will produce power in accordance with power requirements and independently of the back-pressure. Excess steam in the back-pressure conduit is blown off to atmosphere. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the admission valve d of the turbine a is normally regulated by a servo-motor d<1> the oil system of which is controlled by a device f responsive to the pressure in the conduit e. On the speed falling below an admissible limit, control is taken over by a speed governor g acting through a valve h in the oil system. A modified arrangement of the servo-motor is described.
