Abstract
Detergents comprise water-soluble metaphosphates, and sulphonic acids or sulphuric esters of compounds containing an aliphatic chain of at least 8 carbon atoms, or water-soluble salts of these acids or esters. The meta-phosphates and salts preferred are those of sodium, potassium, lithium, ammonium, and aliphatic amines, e.g. mono-, di-, and tri-ethanolamines, 10--200 lb. of metaphosphate per 100 lb. of sulphonic acid may be used. There may be added:--Glauber's salt; sodium carbonate; waterglass; oxidizing or reducing agents, e.g. sodium perborate, or sodium hydrosulphite; and solvents, e.g. cyclohexanol, cyclohexanone, cresyl or xylenyl ethers of ethylene glycol, carbon tetrachloride, trichlorethylene. Sulphonic acids specified are those of:--hydroxy-octo-decane, mono- or poly-octyl-naphthalene, lauric margaric or palmitic acid; fatty acid mixtures obtained by hydrolysis of coconut, palm kernel, soya bean, or cottonseed oils; chlorinated or otherwise halogenated fatty acids. Salts specified are those of cetyl sulphonic acid, oleic hydroxyethane sulphonic acid, N-oleic-N-methyl taurine sulphuric esters of decyl, dodecyl, tetradecyl, octodecyl, and oleyl alcohols--or of the alcohols obtained by oxidation of paraffin wax as described in Specification 303,281, [Class 2 (iii)]. The sulphuric derivatives prepared as described in Specifications 306,116, [Class 91], 341,053, 343,899, 364,104, 366,916, 389,543, and 394,043, are particularly mentioned. In examples:--(I) artificial silk stockings are washed at 60 DEG C. in water containing in each litre, 1 gm. of the reaction product of dichloro-stearic acid with mono-ethanolamine sulphuric acid sodium salt, 0.5 gm. of sodium metaphosphate, and 0.5 gm. of sodium carbonate; (2) an aqueous solution of 50 lb. of Glauber's salts, 10 lb. of sodium metaphosphate, and 40 lb. of the sodium salts of acid sulphuric esters of the alcohols corresponding to the fatty acids of coconut and palm kernel oils, is used to clean floor coverings and metal, glass, and lacquered articles; (3) suint wool is washed at about 50 DEG C. in water containing in each litre either 1 gm. of potassium metaphosphate, 2 gm. of sodium carbonate, and 1 gm. of the sodium salt of the acid sulphuric ester of octodecyl alcohol, or 0.25 gm. of sodium metaphosphate and 2.0 gm. of the sodium salt of octyl-naphthalene sulphonic acid.ALSO:Detergents comprise water-soluble metaphosphates, and sulphonic acids or sulphuric esters of compounds containing an aliphatic chain of at least 8 carbon atoms, or watersoluble salts of these acids or esters. The meta phosphates and salts preferred are those of sodium, potassium, lithium, ammonium, and aliphatic amines, e.g. mono-, di- and tri-ethanolamines. 10--200 lb. of metaphosphate per 100 lb. of sulphonic acid may be used. Sulphonic acids specified are those of:--hydroxy-octo-decane mono- or poly-octylnaphthalene, lauric, margaric or palmitic acid; fatty acid mixtures obtained by hydrolysis of coco-nut, palmkernel, soya bean or cotton seed oils; chlorinated or otherwise halogenated fatty acids, salts specified are those of cetyl sulphonic acid, oleic hydroxyethane sulphonic acid, N-oleic-N-methyl taurine sulphuric esters of decyl, dodecyl, tetradecyl, octodecyl, and oleyl alcohols--or of the alcohols obtained by oxidation of paraffin wax as described in Specification 303,281, [Class 2 (iii)]. The sulphuric derivatives prepared as described in Specifications 306,116, [Class 15 (ii)], 341,053, 343,899, 364,104, 366,916, 389,543, and 394,043 are particularly mentioned. In examples: (1) artificial silk stockings are washed at 60 DEG C. in water containing in each litre, 1 gm. of the reaction product of dichloro-stearic acid with mono-ethanolamine sulphuric acid sodium salt, 0.5 gm. of sodium metaphosphate and 0.5 gm. of sodium carbonate; (2) an aqueous solution of 50 lb. of Glauber's salt, 10 lb. of sodium metaphosphate, and 40 lb. of the sodium salts of acid sulphuric esters of the alcohols corresponding to the fatty acids of coco-nut and palmkernel oils, is used to clean floor coverings, and metal, glass and lacquered articles; (3) suint wool is washed at about 50 DEG C. in water containing in each litre either 1 gm. of potassium metaphosphate, 2 gm. of sodium carbonate, and 1 gm. of the sodium salt of the acid sulphuric ester of octodecyl alcohol, or 0.25 gm. of sodium metaphosphate and 2.0 gm. of the sodium salt of octyl-naphthalene sulphonic acid.
