408,172. Domestic fire grates. HERBERT, M. D., 652, Alexandra Parade, Glasgow. Nov. 4, 1933, No. 30675. [Class 126.] A barless grate front fitting, particularly for range grates, is formed with an elongated narrow vertical projection 11 at each side with which are associated removable slotted plates 12 the slots 13 in which fit the projections and which are of a size to fit the vertical grooves in the grate jambs from which the normal front bars have been removed. By the use of plates 12 of a suitable size the barless fitting may thus be adapted to be used in grates having various sizes of grooves. The plates 12 preferably extend above the notches 8 in which rests a cross-bar 17, which is thus retained against lateral movement. Feet or ribs 14 on the under side of the barless grate front rest on the flat top face of the bottom grate frame. The front shown is formed with alternate ribs and slots 6, 7.
