Grates; supports for articles to be heated.-In a fitting of the kind described in Specification 108,387 means are provided for supporting a detachable front grate 3 in an inclined, three horizontal, and two vertical positions, and a trivet 4 in six horizontal and two vertical positions. The side members 2, 2<a>, are each formed with slots d, having notches c, d<1>, d<2>, and are provided with projections f, h, g, k, b, arranged as shown in Fig. 16. The front grate 3 has, at its ends, projections a which are adapted to rest in the notches in the slots d, the grate being held in the various positions shown in Fig. 10 by engagement with the projections f, h, g, b. The grate 3 in its inclined and vertical positions forms the front of the fire and when supported horizontally constitutes a utensil support. The trivet 4, shaped as shown in Fig. 6, is supported in its lowest position, Fig. 20, between the projections w and flanges x extending from the jambs 2, 2<a>, and in its other horizontal and vertical positions by engagement over or between various pairs of the projections f, h, g, k. A plate 5, having curved portions p taking through openings between projections y on the jambs 2, 2<a>, is. adapted, when vertical, to cover the space beneath the fire and when in its various horizontal positions to support an iron or the like. A plate 10, housed normally beneath the bottom. grate 7, may be drawn forward to form a utensil. support or be raised, as shown in Fig. 6, to cover the front 3 and so form a barless grate. The side jambs 2, 2a. carry projecting portions t, Fig. 23, to which a binding rail or frame 6 is screwed, thescrews s serving also to secure the upper cornersof the cover 5 when in its vertical position.
