Grates.-A domestic fire-grate affording a reduced fuel space and at the same time adapted to remain unattended for a long period comprises deep fire-brick blocks F, F<1> filling up all but a narrow central space and a front A of perforated metal rising somewhat above the upper surface of the blocks, an additional upper front J being fitted when it is desired to bank up the fire to be left unattended for some time. The hooks C by which the front A is secured on the front bars are adjustable in slots in the front plate.
