Abstract
407,204. Boots &c. JOHNSON, J. E., 50, Quai de Jemmapes, Paris. April 6, 1933, No. 10344. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1932. [Class 17 (ii).] Connecting uppers to soles ; uppers.-In making " Sahara " sandals and other shoes, the lower portion of the upper is not integral with the sole but is made from a strip of leather moulded to shape after its ends have been joined, the moulding providing an inturned flange for connection to the sole and shaped toe and heel ends. The strip is preferably cut to include parts serving as heel and toe stiffeners. The inturned edge may be secured in a split extending inwardly of the edge of a sole and the unit thus formed may be secured by adhesive over an upper lasted over an insole. The join at the ends of the strip may be at the heel end or on the inside of the waist. The lining of a shoe may be secured to the edge of an insole on a last, a moulded strip positioned over the last, a sole and heel applied to the strip and the top portion of the upper secured to the edge of the moulded lower portion.
