Abstract

278,850. Liverpool Rubber Co., Ltd., and Davies, I. W. Sept. 1, 1926. Connecting uppers to insoles and soles; uppers; athletic shoes.-A shoe having a rubber or like sole and a canvas upper is reinforced by a strip or strips and/or pieces of rubber or rubber compound. The reinforcement is effected by superimposition of the rubber strips &c. subsequent to the complete formation of the shoe. The superimposed strips may serve an ornamental purpose as well as strengthening means. A continuous strip a surrounds the upper b a, suitable distance above the sole c. Two reinforcing pieces d, also of rubber composition, extend up each side of the instep and may extend and include the eyelet holes e. A separate toe cap f may be superimposed on the strip a and may have ornamentation on it in any suitable manner. The strips may also be coloured to contrast with the shoe. The strips may be vuleanized or otherwise connected to the shoe.
