Abstract

453,232. Boots and shoes. SMITH, FAIRE, & CO., Ltd., and LOCKTON, A. H., Park Vale Works, St. Saviour's Road East, Leicester. March 9, 1935, Nos. 7418 and 11881. [Class 17 (ii)], A boot or shoe of the kind in which the upper is secured by stitching or its equivalent to the sole, through sole or insole, is provided around the marginal part with an integral upstanding wall 12, the outer surface of which is adhered tc the interior surface oj the upper or lining tc form a sealing strip. In the veldtschoen shown in Fig. 1, the sole 10 is channelled from the toe as far back as the vamp seam to form the wall 12 which is secured to the upper 13 by adhesive. The margin of the upper is turned out and secured to the rand and to the sole by sewing 15, the usual channelling 16 being provided if desired. An outer sole may be secured to the sole 10 by adhesive, by riveting or by sewing. A modification of the sole 10, Fig. 4, consists of two layers 10a and 10b secured together by adhesive, the former being channelled to form the upturned wall 12, and the latter channelled to receive the stitching 15 previously mentioned. In applying the invention to Goodyear welt and to non- . welted footwear shown in Figs. 8, 9 respectively, the upstanding wall is formed by skiving the edges of the insoles 210 and 310 respectively. In the former case the insole is channelled on the underside to accommodate the usual stitching 19 which secures the insole to the upper and to the welt 18. In the Sahara sandal shown in Fig. 10, a sole 410 with an upstanding wall is moulded to the appropriate shape and secured to the upper by thonging 24 and adhesive. An outer sole 410a, may be adhesively secured to the sole 410 if desired. In a modified Sahara sandal shown in Fig. 11, the sole 410 is split to form two upstanding walls, the inner one 12 being secured by adhesive to the interior of the upper and the outer one 12a by thonging 24 to the exterior of the upper.
