Abstract

406,576. Snap-action switches. PARSONS, Ltd., C. H., and HANDLEY, G. B., Wharfdale Road, Tyseley, Birmingham. Aug. 1, 1933, No. 21575. [Class 38 (v).] A switch adapted to be moved alternately " on " and "off" by successive pulls of a chain comprises a contact arm d connected by ordinary spring toggle quick-action mechanism to an operating arm g, and a link pivoted at its centre to the arm g and pivoted at n to a link l to which the chain s is attached. The link j is preferably U-shaped, the open end of the U being at the top and therefore able to pass over from one side to the other of the arm g. The closed end of the # is adapted to bear against one or other of two cam-shaped arms p fixed to the arm g. When the chain s is pulled, a pivot stud m on the link l which engages an elongated slot n in the link j first slides to the end of the slot. The link j is then pulled down and round and as it bears against an arm p the lever g is forced into the other position of the switch. When the chain 8 is released, a return spring t pushes up the link l and a wing q on the latter by sliding up the cam surface of the left arm p pushes the link j into its alternate position with respect to the arm g. The link l now lies to the right of the arm g so that the next actuation of the chain will move the switch back again.
