Switches, quick-action; clockwork actuation.- In time switches in which the " make " and " break " movements are effected by the counterclockwise rotation of two clockwork-actuated arms A, A' respectively, two dead-centre quickaction springs N, 0 are provided both of which serve to complete the break movement but one only of which completes the make movement of the switch arm D. The springs N, O are fastened at one end to an adjustable point P and at their other ends to levers D, E pivoted at F and a pin J on the lever D engages a slot K on the lever E. In the " make " movement the arm A engages both the levers D, E moving the springs N, O over dead-centres and the comparatively weak spring N then brings the lever D, gently but firmly into engagement with the fixed contacts R, R'. In the " break " movement the arm A<1> engages a third lever G a pin L on which engages a projection M on the lever E whereby the lever E is rotated in a counterclockwise. direction and the spring O is carried over dead-centres. The spring O then rapidly completes the movement of the lever E, the slot K of which engages the pin J of the lever D and drives the latter into the " open " position, the spring N helping in the final portion of the movement.
