Abstract

406,483. Control of several D.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London..- (Assignees of Shoults, D. R.; 318, Charles Street, Scotia, New York, U.S.A.) March 4, 1933, No. 6651. Convention date, March 5, 1932. [Class 38 (iii).] The motor 30 operating calender rolls 11, and motors 15, 16, driving a winding roll 12 are all supplied from a generator 25 and varied in speed by varying the excitation of the generator. An auxiliary generator 35 is connected in series with the motors 15, 16, and is excited by a field 37, carrying the current of the motor 30, and a separately excited field 36 varied by means of a carbon pile resistance 38, in accordance with the current of the motors 15, 16. In this manner the tension in paper strip 10 passing between the rolls is maintained constant both during running and at standstill.
