Abstract
406,196. Motor horns. AUQUIER, E., 107, Cours Lafayette, Lyons, France. July 19, 1933, No. 20416. [Class 13.] The-exhaust gases from the engine of a motor vehicle are diverted at will through a branch pipe into an expansion chamber by restricting the exhaust outlet and are there adapted to sound a horn. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the exhaust pipe 1 may be closed by a valve 2 with an asbestos seating 7 and operated by a wire 5 and lever 4, diverting the exhaust gases through a more or less restricted orifice 12 of a size determined by the power of the engine. The orifice 12 communicates with an ovoid chamber 13 into which a reed horn 14 is screwed. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, the exhaust gases are admitted through a gauze filter into a rectangular chamber 17 provided with a baffle 23, spring-closed release valve 24, liquid discharge orifice 26 and two reed horns 27, 28, the reeds of which are adjustable by screws 29.
