Abstract

A car burglar alarm comprises a first part 20 secured to the end of an exhaust tail pipe 10, and a second part 30 which contains a sound-emitting device 40 actuated by the flow of exhaust gas and which is readily removably connected to the first part. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Car exhaust alarm The object of the device is to prevent or to deter vehicle theft. To this purpose the device is attached to the tailpipe of the exhaust system and when the engine is started the exhaust gases pass through the device and activate a sound emitting device this may be a siren, horn, whistle, hooter, or other gas activated sound emitting device.
The device is of tubular construction and consists of two main parts, these being the attached part which is semi permanently fixed to the tailpipe by means of eqi-spaced Allen screws. These may be of different sizes to prevent easy removal. Alternative method of attachment may be a series of equi-spaced forks eminating from the inside bore of this fixed part, and clamped to the tailpipe by Jubilee clip. the object of this semi permanent part is to provide a fixture to which the removable part may be locked.
This removable part of the device houses the sound emitting device and is locked onto the attached part and thus covers the exhaust bore. The exhaust gases are induced through the internal sound device by means of a conical tube which locates onto the exhaust bore. The method of locking may be of the conventional type lock locating on the shamfered rim and peripheral slot of the fixed part using a conventional type key to lift the sprung tongue from the peripheral slot and thus allowing removal. Alternative method of locking may be of combination type lock. The end of the detachable part is blocked and the sound is emitted through slots in the sides of the tube, this prevents pre-theft tampering of the internals and also prevents water from collecting The fixed part then, remains on the tailpipe whilst the removable part may be kept in the vehicle and attached when the vehicle is unattended.
Construction would be of suitable materials: strong and corrosion resistant.
Detachable part may be brightly painted to provide better visible deterent.
No electrical connections.
Transferable from vehicle to vehicle.
Easily fitted Externally visible deterent No false activation by wind etc.
Inexpensive Utilises exhaust gases to warn of vehicle starting.
